Helping Your Child Learn to ReadMake time for reading each night. All readers benefit from discussion about the story students read independently or stories you enjoy together. Questions to Guide Discussion: Who is your favorite character? What are you learning about him/her? What was your favorite part? What does it remind you of? What was the author's message? Determine if the reading bag book is a read to or a read with your child. Read With: The student can read most the words and pictures. Let them lead the way with the text. Remind them to reread when stuck on words or when the words they read don't make sense. Read To: The student can't read much of the text on his/her own. |
